rehashing

Going over again

Rehashing is going over old material again, usually without adding anything new.

The image is of hash—a dish of chopped, reheated leftovers.

To rehash an argument is to repeat it without fresh insight: They spent the whole meeting rehashing the same complaints.

The noun rehash describes the tired result: The sequel was just a rehash of the original.
