peening
Striking metal repeatedly
Peening is a metalworking technique of hammering or blasting a surface to shape, strengthen, or texture it.
A ball-peen hammer has a rounded end for this purpose.
Shot peening bombards metal with small projectiles to compress the surface and increase fatigue resistance: The aircraft parts undergo shot peening before assembly.
To peen is to work metal this way.
