stress relieving
Easing mental pressure
Stress relieving is a heat treatment process in metalworking where metal is heated to a temperature below its transformation point, then cooled slowly to reduce internal stresses caused by machining, welding, or forming.
The process prevents warping and cracking without significantly altering the metal's hardness or strength: The welds require stress relieving before final assembly.
Outside metallurgy, the phrase describes anything that reduces psychological tension: yoga and other stress-relieving activities.
