peace council
Truce negotiation gathering
A peace council is a formal gathering convened to negotiate an end to conflict or establish terms of coexistence.
The term appears most often in historical contexts involving treaties between colonial powers and indigenous peoples, or between warring factions: The tribal leaders met in peace council with the general.
More broadly, any deliberative body assembled to resolve disputes may be called a peace council.
