partisan fighters
Irregular armed resistance
Partisan fighters are armed civilians or irregular forces who resist an occupying power or oppressive regime, typically operating through guerrilla tactics rather than conventional warfare.
The term gained particular prominence during World War II, when resistance movements across occupied Europe conducted sabotage, intelligence gathering, and attacks against Axis forces.
Unlike regular soldiers, partisans often blend into civilian populations and rely on local support networks.
The partisan fighters harassed German supply lines throughout the winter.
