partisan divide
Ideological tribal split
A partisan divide is a sharp split along political party lines, where opposing sides hold incompatible positions and show little willingness to compromise.
The term describes both the gap itself and the hostility surrounding it: The partisan divide has made bipartisan legislation nearly impossible.
Often used to characterize polarized democracies where voters and politicians increasingly view the other party as enemies rather than opponents.
