Florida recount
Bush-Gore ballot dispute
The Florida recount refers to the disputed vote count in Florida during the 2000 U.S. presidential election between George W.
Bush and Al Gore.
With Florida's electoral votes deciding the presidency and margins razor-thin, weeks of recounts and legal battles ensued until the Supreme Court halted the process, effectively awarding the state—and the election—to Bush.
The episode introduced Americans to hanging chads and butterfly ballots, and became shorthand for electoral chaos and contested outcomes: It's turning into another Florida recount.
