parafoil

Wind-filled canopy

A parafoil is a flexible, inflatable wing used for parachuting, parasailing, or kite flying.

Unlike traditional round parachutes, parafoils have rectangular cells that fill with air to create an airfoil shape, allowing controlled gliding rather than simple descent: The skydiver steered her parafoil toward the landing zone.

Parafoils power recreational activities, cargo delivery systems, and kiteboarding.
