parachutists

Airborne descent specialists

Parachutists are people who jump from aircraft and descend using parachutes.

The term covers both military personnel making tactical drops and civilians who parachute for sport or recreation: Parachutists landed in the field at dawn.

Skydivers are parachutists, though the reverse isn't always true—some parachutists jump for purposes other than the thrill of freefall.
