palm down
Facing the floor
Palm down describes the position of a hand with the palm facing the ground or floor.
It's the natural orientation for pushing down, patting a surface, or signaling someone to lower their voice or calm down: She gestured palm down to quiet the crowd.
The opposite position is palm up.
