pairbonding
Lasting romantic connection
Pairbonding is the formation of a lasting attachment between two individuals, especially a mating pair.
The term comes from animal behavior studies describing species where mates stay together beyond a single breeding season: Prairie voles are known for pairbonding.
It extends to human relationships, often emphasizing the biological or evolutionary basis of romantic attachment: Oxytocin plays a role in pairbonding.
Also spelled pair-bonding or pair bonding.
