Overset means to turn over, upset, or capsize: The canoe oversets easily in rough water.
In printing and typesetting, overset refers to type that has been set but won't fit the available space—material composed but left out for lack of room.
The word is uncommon in general use, appearing mostly in nautical and publishing contexts.
