overevaluate
Assess too highly
To overevaluate is to assess something as more valuable, significant, or capable than it actually is.
The term appears in technical contexts—psychology, economics, decision theory—where precise judgment matters: Studies show people consistently overevaluate their own contributions to group projects.
It's the opposite of underevaluate, and less common than overestimate, which covers similar ground.
