ovarian follicles
Oocyte-containing structures
Ovarian follicles are small fluid-filled sacs in the ovaries, each containing an immature egg.
During the menstrual cycle, follicles develop and one typically releases a mature egg at ovulation.
The remaining follicle becomes the corpus luteum, which produces hormones.
Follicle count indicates ovarian reserve: Her doctor measured her follicle count to assess fertility.
