ouzel
European black songbird
An ouzel is a European blackbird, or more specifically, the ring ouzel—a thrush with a white crescent on its breast found in upland areas.
The water ouzel, also called a dipper, is a different bird entirely: a small, plump species that walks underwater in mountain streams hunting insects.
The spelling ousel is also used.
