orangutang
Borneo's great ape
Orangutang is a common variant spelling of orangutan, the large red-haired ape native to Borneo and Sumatra.
The spelling with a final g reflects how many English speakers pronounce the word, though it departs from the Malay roots meaning "person of the forest." Orangutangs are among the most intelligent primates.
