off-load
Shift cargo elsewhere
Off-load means to remove cargo, equipment, or burden from a vehicle, vessel, or other carrier.
The term applies literally to physical goods being transferred from trucks, ships, or aircraft, but extends to any kind of unburdening: We off-loaded the moving truck in under an hour.
In computing and business contexts, off-load often means to transfer work or responsibility to another system or person: The company off-loaded customer service to a call center overseas.
The spelling varies between off-load, offload, and off load.
