nut roll
Walnut-filled sweet bread
A nut roll is a pastry made by rolling dough around a filling of ground nuts—typically walnuts—mixed with sugar and sometimes honey.
The tradition comes from Central and Eastern European baking, where it appears at holidays and celebrations: My grandmother always made nut rolls for Christmas.
Also called nutroll.
