nulling

Reducing to nothing

Nulling is the act of reducing something to zero or canceling it out.

In electronics and signal processing, nulling means adjusting a circuit to eliminate unwanted output or interference: nulling the offset voltage.

In audio work, nulling tests whether two signals are identical—if they cancel completely when one is phase-inverted, they're the same.

The term appears in various technical fields where precise cancellation matters.
