zero out
Reduce to nothing
Zero out means to reduce something to zero or cancel it completely.
You might zero out a balance, a budget line, or a scale before measuring.
In computing, to zero out a disk is to overwrite all data with zeros, erasing it.
Figuratively, zeroing out can mean eliminating or neutralizing something entirely: The losses zeroed out our gains.
