noncoms
Corporals and sergeants
Noncoms is the plural of noncom, informal for noncommissioned officer—a military enlisted person with supervisory authority, such as a sergeant or corporal.
Unlike commissioned officers, noncoms rise through the ranks rather than entering through officer training: The noncoms kept the platoon running while the lieutenant figured things out.
