nitro boost
Racing game acceleration
Nitro boost is a burst of speed in racing video games, typically activated by pressing a button to inject nitrous oxide into the engine.
The mechanic rewards players for drifting, drafting, or collecting power-ups: Save your nitro boost for the final stretch.
The term extends to any sudden acceleration or surge of energy: The coffee gave me the nitro boost I needed.
