news blackout
Information suppression order
A news blackout is a period when information about an event is deliberately suppressed or withheld from the media.
Governments may impose blackouts during military operations or crises; organizations may request them during sensitive negotiations.
The term also applies when media collectively agrees not to report something: The police requested a news blackout while the hostage situation unfolded.
