network bandwidth
Connection speed limit
Network bandwidth is the maximum rate at which data can be transmitted across a network connection, typically measured in bits per second.
Higher bandwidth allows more data to flow simultaneously, much like a wider pipe carries more water.
People often conflate bandwidth with speed, but bandwidth is capacity while speed involves latency and other factors.
We need more bandwidth to handle all these video calls.
The term has crossed into general usage to mean available capacity or resources: I don't have the bandwidth to take on another project right now.
