neon lighting
Bright gas tubes
Neon lighting uses glass tubes filled with neon or other gases that glow when electrified—neon produces red-orange, while other gases create different colors.
The technology dominated commercial signage from the 1920s through the 1960s: The strip was ablaze with neon lighting.
Now largely replaced by LEDs, neon lighting evokes retro aesthetics and urban nightlife.
