national conventions
Party nomination assemblies
National conventions are large formal gatherings of a political party's delegates, held to nominate candidates for president and vice president and to adopt the party's platform.
In the United States, the Democratic and Republican parties hold national conventions every four years during presidential election season: The candidate's speech electrified the national convention.
The term also applies more broadly to any large meeting of a national organization's members.
