narks

Stool pigeons, slang

Narks is the plural of nark, British slang for a police informer or someone who reports others' misconduct: The gang suspected narks in their midst.

To nark is to inform on someone or, more broadly, to annoy or irritate: It really narks me when people cut in line.

In American English, the spelling narc typically refers to a narcotics agent.
