mortarmen
Indirect fire soldiers
Mortarmen are soldiers who operate mortars—portable, muzzle-loading artillery pieces that fire explosive shells in a high arc.
The term is military jargon, typically referring to a specialized infantry team: The mortarmen set up position behind the ridge.
Like riflemen or infantrymen, the word assumes male soldiers, though the role is no longer gender-restricted.
