moon halo
Circle around moon
A moon halo is a ring of light appearing around the moon, caused by ice crystals in the upper atmosphere refracting moonlight.
The most common type forms a circle roughly 22 degrees from the moon.
Folk wisdom holds that a moon halo predicts coming rain or snow: There's a ring around the moon tonight—weather's changing.
