moon bases
Settlements beyond Earth
Moon bases are permanent or semi-permanent human installations on the lunar surface, designed for scientific research, resource extraction, or as staging points for deeper space exploration.
The concept has been a staple of science fiction and space agency planning since the mid-20th century: NASA's Artemis program aims to establish a sustainable moon base by the 2030s.
Unlike temporary lunar landings, a moon base implies ongoing habitation and infrastructure.
