moistness

Not quite wet

Moistness is the quality of being slightly wet or damp.

The word describes a desirable texture in baked goods—the moistness of the cake—but can sound unpleasant in other contexts, as many English speakers find "moist" viscerally off-putting.

Moistness falls between dryness and wetness on the spectrum of dampness.
