misreadings
Faulty textual interpretations
Misreadings are instances of reading something incorrectly—mistaking one word for another, misinterpreting meaning, or drawing wrong conclusions from a text.
The term applies to simple errors I kept misreading "public" as "pubic" and to larger failures of interpretation: His misreadings of the contract cost him thousands.
Literary critics sometimes use misreading more technically to describe how later writers creatively distort their predecessors.
