misfile
Put somewhere incorrect
To misfile is to put a document or item in the wrong place in a filing system: The contract was misfiled under the wrong client name.
The word assumes an organizational system exists—papers aren't misfiled in a pile, only in places with designated spots.
A misfile is an instance of such an error.
