A misanthropist is someone who dislikes or distrusts humanity in general.
The word is interchangeable with misanthrope, though misanthrope is more common.
A misanthropist doesn't necessarily hate individuals—they may have friends and loved ones—but holds a dim view of human nature collectively: Years of working in customer service turned him into a misanthropist.
