minilab

Small photo developer

A minilab is a compact photo-processing facility, typically found in drugstores, camera shops, or big-box retailers, that develops film and prints photographs on-site within an hour or less.

The term emerged in the 1980s when automated equipment made quick turnaround possible without sending film to large centralized labs.

With digital photography, minilabs have largely disappeared or converted to printing digital images.
