milagro

Unexpected blessed event

Milagro is Spanish for miracle, used in English primarily for the small metal charms common in Mexican and Latin American folk religion.

These tiny figures—hearts, eyes, limbs, animals—are pinned to saints' images or left at shrines as prayers for healing or thanks for prayers answered: The altar was covered with milagros left by pilgrims.
