methicillin

Staph-fighting drug

Methicillin is a synthetic antibiotic in the penicillin family, developed to combat bacteria resistant to earlier penicillins.

Though rarely used clinically today, it remains significant in medical terminology: methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) describes dangerous staph infections that don't respond to standard antibiotic treatment, even though resistance is now tested against other drugs.
