mercurochrome
Scarlet wound treatment
Mercurochrome is a brand name for merbromin, a red antiseptic once commonly applied to minor cuts and scrapes.
The distinctive red-orange stain it left on skin was a familiar sight on children's knees throughout the mid-twentieth century.
It fell out of use after concerns about its mercury content led to regulatory restrictions.
Mom dabbed mercurochrome on my scraped elbow.
