chlorhexidine

Hospital skin cleanser

Chlorhexidine is an antiseptic compound used to kill bacteria on skin and mucous membranes.

It appears in surgical scrubs, mouthwashes, and skin cleansers: The nurse swabbed the area with chlorhexidine before inserting the IV.

Unlike alcohol-based antiseptics, chlorhexidine continues working for hours after application.
