Memorializing is preserving or honoring the memory of someone or something.
A statue memorializes a historical figure; a plaque memorializes an event.
The word often appears in contexts of public commemoration: The monument memorializes soldiers who died in the war.
To memorialize can also mean to petition formally, though this sense is rare.
