mechanisation
Replacing hands with machines
Mechanisation is the British spelling of mechanization—the process of replacing human or animal labor with machines.
Agriculture underwent mechanisation when tractors replaced draft horses.
The term applies to any shift toward mechanical methods: the mechanisation of textile production, factory mechanisation.
It can suggest both progress and displacement of workers.
