market-garden

Commercial produce patch

A market-garden is a plot of land where vegetables, fruits, and flowers are grown for sale at local markets rather than for personal use or large-scale commercial distribution.

The term is more common in British English; Americans typically say truck farm.

As a verb, to market-garden is to cultivate such a plot: She market-gardens on three acres outside town.
