industrial farm
Mass food production
An industrial farm is a large-scale agricultural operation that uses intensive methods to maximize production—confined animal feeding, mechanized harvesting, heavy fertilizer and pesticide use.
The term often carries critical connotations, contrasting with smaller family farms or sustainable practices: Industrial farms have transformed the rural landscape.
Also called factory farms when referring to livestock operations.
