maple tapping
Collecting tree sap
Maple tapping is the process of extracting sap from maple trees to make syrup.
A hole is drilled into the trunk, a spout inserted, and the sap collected in buckets or through tubing.
The season runs in late winter when freezing nights and warm days cause sap to flow.
We went maple tapping at my uncle's farm in Vermont.
