grain harvesting
Cutting cereal crops
Grain harvesting is the process of cutting and collecting mature cereal crops—wheat, rice, corn, barley, oats—from the field.
Traditional harvesting involved separate steps: cutting with scythes or sickles, bundling into sheaves, and threshing to separate grain from stalks.
Modern combine harvesters perform all these operations in one pass: Grain harvesting begins in late summer across the wheat belt.
