Manila paper is a sturdy, buff-colored paper originally made from manila hemp fibers.
It's the material of manila envelopes and manila folders—the yellowish-tan office supplies used for filing and mailing documents.
The color has become so associated with the material that manila now describes any paper of that distinctive brownish-yellow shade, regardless of actual fiber content.
