magstripe

Black payment line

A magstripe is the magnetic stripe on the back of credit cards, ID badges, and similar cards—the dark band that stores data read by swiping through a card reader.

Short for "magnetic stripe": The magstripe on my debit card is worn out.

Chip technology has largely superseded magstripes for payment cards, though many cards retain both.
