magnetic lock
Electromagnetically secured closure
A magnetic lock is a locking mechanism that uses an electromagnet to secure a door.
When powered, the magnet holds a metal plate on the door frame with considerable force; cutting power releases the lock.
Magnetic locks are common in commercial buildings and access-controlled areas: The magnetic lock clicked open when she swiped her badge.
Unlike mechanical locks, they have no moving parts to wear out or pick.
