cylinder lock
Rotating key mechanism
A cylinder lock is a lock mechanism where the key fits into a cylindrical core that rotates when the correct key aligns internal pins or tumblers.
This design dominates residential and commercial door locks: The locksmith replaced the old cylinder lock in under five minutes.
The cylinder can often be rekeyed without replacing the entire lock assembly.
