Almond meringue cookies
Macarons are delicate French sandwich cookies made from almond flour, egg whites, and sugar, with a filling between two rounded shells.
The shells have a smooth top and ruffled base called a "foot." They come in many flavors and colors: The bakery displayed rows of pastel macarons.
Not to be confused with macaroons, which are coconut-based.
